CHICAGO: A medical doctor, pharmacy resident, and medical doctor were fatally shot Monday following a domestic dispute that turned deadly outside Chicago's Mercy Hospital.

The gunman also died at the scene.

Chicago "lost a doctor, pharmaceutical assistant, and a police officer, all going about their day, all doing what they loved," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said, as he fought back tears. "This just tears at the soul of our city. It is the face and a consequence of evil."

Mercy Hospital identified both staff victims as Tamara O'Neal, 38, the emergency room physician, and Dayna Less, 25, a first-year pharmacy resident.

Samuel Jimenez, 28, was the officer killed at the scene who has joined the Chicago Police Department in 2017.

According to police statements, O'Neal and the gunman were arguing in the parking lot of the hospital.

One of O'Neal's friends tried to step in.

At that point, the gunman lifted up his shirt to display his handgun, causing the friend to flee inside the hospital to get help.

O'Neal was shot by the gunman and after falling to the ground the gunman stood over her and show three more times, according to an eyewitness account.

When officers arrived at the scene, the gunman fired into the officer's car killing officer Jimenez.

The gunman proceeded to run into the hospital.

The gunman shot the pharmaceutical assistant Less as she was coming off the elevator.

He exchanged more gunfire with officers before being shot and killed by officers.
