Man who raped dying 18-year-old woman sentenced to less than 3 years
Brian Varela, a 20-year-old man from Lynnwood, Washington got sentenced to less than 3 years in prison after pleading guilty to second-degree manslaughter, third-degree rape and unlawful disposal of remains of 18-year-old victim, Alyssa Noceda.
According to court documents, Noceda had taken a fatal dose combination of fentanyl and alprazolam at Varela’s room after a party. Only one minute after she took the drugs, she passed out. While she was passed out, Varela proceeded to have sex with her “to pass time.” Also, according to court records, he even had told a friend “she died having sex with me,” and made jokes about what was going on to some of his friends.
Investigators also said he used her thumb to unlock her phone and send messages to make it appear as she was going to run away.
After the sentence, Noceda’s mother said “I’m heartbroken. She deserves justice and she is not receiving it. I’m appalled. It’s a joke. A slap on the wrist for taking someone’s life and violating another human being.”
